Why Summer Is the Best Time to Sealcoat Your Asphalt Driveway

Whether you live in the GTA or anywhere else in Ontario, the best time to invest in asphalt sealcoating for your residential driveway or commercial parking lot is in the summer. Sealcoating provides your asphalt with a protective layer to prevent external damaging elements from destroying the structural integrity and aesthetic look of your asphalt. These elements can include changing temperature ranges, different forms of precipitation, gas leakage, oil spills, exhaust fumes from vehicles, and so much more.

Asphalt Sealcoating

Any professional contractor will most likely agree that the best time to sealcoat an asphalt driveway is in the summer for a variety of reasons. Summertime provides ample opportunities to refresh the look and functionality of your asphalt driveway, but because it’s also one of the busiest seasons for contractors, it’s important to book your sealcoating session early.

Quick and Easy Application

The mild temperatures in the summer create the ideal conditions for working outside. Also, sealcoating applications can be completed quickly and more easily because there aren’t any inclement weather conditions to consider. The heat from the sun also helps to speed up the drying process so that you can get back to using your asphalt driveway or parking lot in virtually no time at all. Just make sure that you book the contractor and check the weather in advance. Summer is the busiest season for sealcoating asphalt and contractors are generally in high demand during this time. Also, if the weather forecast calls for rain directly after your sealcoating has been applied and before it’s had sufficient time to dry, then it’ll undo all of the work that’s already been completed and you’ll have to start all over again. Keep in mind it could take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours for sealcoating to fully dry. In case you’re wondering when to seal a new asphalt driveway, the answer is directly after it’s been installed. The best temperature to sealcoat your asphalt driveway usually occurs during the time of day when the sun has reached its peak strength.

Sealcoating Protects Asphalt from Damages

As mentioned, asphalt sealcoating helps protect your newly installed or repaired asphalt driveway from external and potentially damaging elements. While sealcoating doesn’t last forever and it does require occasional maintenance, sealing your asphalt driveway every two to three years will keep it looking clean, fresh, and brand new. The more you take care of it, the more you’ll get out of it in the long run. Sealcoating is instrumental to increasing the overall longevity of your asphalt driveway or parking lot.

Cost Savings

Another added benefit of sealcoating your asphalt driveway is that it means you won’t have to repair or replace it as often. Since sealcoating works to prevent damages from occurring, you won’t have to get your driveway repaired quite as often as you would if it weren’t protected. Before you settle on a contractor though, make sure you research the best driveway sealing companies in your area. These contractors should have a better understanding of what the climate is like in your area and will therefore be able to provide higher quality services and use materials that are appropriate for your region.
