Toronto, Canada (PRWEB), February 28, 2015 – Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. (www.SureSealPavement.com), the Greater Toronto Area’s (GTA) leading pavement maintenance and repair company, is commenting on reports that the number of potholes in the GTA has been reduced, thanks to a milder winter.

Reports from January have indicated that the City of Toronto has received almost 600 complaints about potholes, a relatively small figure compared to last year, when almost 2,000 complaints were launched due in part to the coldest winter on record in decades. “The weather has cooperated for the majority of this winter,” says Lance Bradshaw, president and CEO of Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. “We had what the GTA would classify as a mild winter for December and most of January, and that allowed the city to make some progress with the pothole problem.”

Bradshaw explains that the city filled an ambitious 20,000 potholes in January, most of which were “protective,” according to Hector Moreno, the City of Toronto’s road operations manager. “This winter didn’t see nearly as much snow as last winter,” he adds. “As a result, the conditions have been a lot better for the city road workers to do their jobs and proactively fill potholes before they become a serious problem.”

The total the City of Toronto has spent on potholes this year sits around the $450,000 mark. This is a jump from last year, when it spent approximately $415,000 on pothole repairs in the GTA.

“It’s the snow that becomes a problem,” Bradshaw notes. “Excess moisture causes the asphalt to crack, and with the amount of snow we had last year, it’s no wonder so many complaints were issued.”

“At Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc., we understand how dangerous potholes that aren’t repaired can be,” Bradshaw concludes. “We have been repairing potholes around Toronto and the GTA for years, so we know how difficult it is to fill potholes during the winter season.”
