“Spring is usually the time when property owners start to notice potholes in their parking lots,” says Lance Bradshaw, president and CEO of Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. “Water infiltrates the small cracks that form during the winter. During the freeze and thaw cycle, the pavement flexes, causing the asphalt to break down and potholes to form.”
Bradshaw says there are a number of options and preventative measures property owners can take to repair potholes and make sure that they won’t reform.
As Bradshaw explains, “Asphalt cold patches and hot-mix asphalt can temporarily be used to repair any immediate safety concerns throughout the winter and spring months. Permanent repairs will require saw cutting the asphalt to remove the damaged area and paving the area using new hot-mix asphalt. This work can be competed anytime from mid-April to September for best long-term results.”
“Potholes not only cause damage to the underside of vehicles, but they can also make your property luck ugly,” concludes Bradshaw. “The spring and summer months are excellent seasons for asphalt paving repair.
